Joel McHale, already busy with his work on The Soup and Community, has taken on yet another role. He will join the season five cast of FX’s Sons of Anarchy for a “multi-episode” storyline, according to TV Guide.
McHale’s character, Warren, is a con man that finds himself in trouble, presumably with a biker, after one of his scams goes awry. It’s assumed that McHale’s talents at wisecracks and being smooth won him the role. Outside of his occupation and the danger it causes him, the only other thing known about Warren is that he’s somehow tied to Katy Segal’s Gemma, proud mother of the original chapter of the Sons of Anarchy. Perhaps they’ll reveal more information at the Sons of Anarchy Panel at Comic-Con, which occurs from 2:45-3:45 tomorrow in Hall H.
Anarchy isn’t without its comedic moments, but it’s definitely more serious than anything McHale has appeared in as of late. His work in Steven Soderbergh’s comedy/drama The Informant! (if you’ve yet to watch it, you must!) leads me to believe he’ll do just fine, though.
Sons of Anarchy returns to FX with season five in September.
