[UPDATED] Joseph Gordon-Levitt Now in the Running for Guardians of the Galaxy Role

The list of Peter Quill contenders for James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy grew by one today. According to Deadline, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is now being considered for the role. Here's a portion of the ever-growing list of other potential Quills: Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe, 21), Lee Pace (Pushing Daises, The Hobbit) and Zachary Levi (Chuck). There are a few others being looked at as well.

Quill, also known as Star-Lord/Starlord, is the leader of the Guardians. He’s the son of an alien male and human female; according to the ever-reliable Marvel Character Database, his powers include augmented strength, resiliency and the ability to control an elemental gun. Oh, he’s also “psionically” linked to his fully sentient spaceship. Hey, I just thought of something: if Gordon-Levitt is cast, perhaps Quill’s first name will be changed to Tommy and he’ll be the Guardian’s Information Officer. I think we can all agree that the world could use a 3rd Rock from the Sun revival.

The fact that Levi is playing Fandral in Thor: The Dark World means he likely won’t be in Guardians. That’d be like having someone play the Human Torch and then Captain America! With that said, I believe Gordon-Levitt is my favorite. Who would you like to see as Quill in the movie?

Update: Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) and John Krasinski (The Office) have officially been added to the list.
