Who’s up for a bit of casting news from Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. television series? While I can’t see your hands being raised, I’m guessing it’s safe to say “everyone reading this.”

Today, THR reports that Elizabeth Henstridge (Hollyoaks, J.J. Abrams & Mark Schwann’s Shelter) and Iain De Caestecker (BBC’s The Fades) will fill two slots on the S.H.I.E.L.D. team. They will portray Agent Jemma Simmons and Agent Leo Fitz, respectively. They, in case you don’t remember from my previous post with character descriptions, are the “sibling-like” duo with expertise in science and technology. They join the already cast Clark Gregg (reprising his role as Agent Phil Coulson) and Ming-Na (‘top notch’ pilot and weapons expert Agent Melinda May).

Here’s the remainder of the uncast roster: Skye (fun, smart, caring and too cool for a last name, apparently), Agent Grant Ward (strong, silent type), Agent Althea Rice (hard-core soldier left damaged by battle). Would you prefer for them to continue to cast relative unknowns or bring in established thespians?

Writing duties for the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot will be handled by Joss, his brother Jed and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen. If time permits, Joss also plans on directing it. ABC hopes to have it ready for air at some point in 2013.
