Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Roster Revealed

The S.H.I.E.L.D roster on Joss Whedon’s upcoming ABC series will be made up of all-new members. A list of unfamiliar names and biographies of five characters from the show’s pilot has made it to the web. They are as follows: Skye, Agent Grant Ward, Agent Althea Rice, Agent Leo Fitz and Agent Jemma Simmons.

We’ve got a youthful girl who is “fun, smart, caring and confident” in Skye. Agent Ward is the strong, silent type with a bit of a temper. Rice, a “hard-core” soldier left damaged by battle, goes by the handle “The Calvary” (or is it Cavalry?). Finally, there’s Fitz and Simmons, who are said to have a sibling-like relationship. Fits is a weapons/tech expert; Simmons knows science. To me, they don’t sound too far off from the crew of the Serenity. Exciting!

Whedon hinted upon the show’s announcement that we could see movie tie-ins since the series will take place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Could that mean we will see cameos from one of the Avengers? Probably not, but perhaps we will see Nick Fury pop in from time-to-time. The series will also provide a great avenue to introduce new characters they plan on eventually bringing into a film.

S.H.I.E.L.D. casting is currently underway; at the time of this post, no names have been attached. Whedon still plans on co-writing the pilot with his brother Jed and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen. Provided he has the time, he will also direct the pilot.
