Justified Season 5: FX Releases New Promos

One of the most criminally underrated shows on television is FX's Justified, and we're only a few weeks away from its return.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens is one of the most badass characters around. Originally created in a short story by Elmore Leonard, the writers on Justified have really fleshed out the character and given us a quality series.

Now, as the fifth season approaches, FX has seen fit to release some short promos…

While the first couple simply feature a mess of crows and Raylan’s hat, and seem rather ominous, the third trailer is the first to feature actual cast. And opposite Givens himself, no one is as important to the quality and tone of the show as Walton Goggins’ Boyd Crowder character. How Goggins has not won awards for this role yet is beyond me (though he was nominated for the Emmy in 2011). The onscreen chemistry he and Timothy Olyphant (Givens) share is the best I’ve seen on any show since Olyphant shared the screen with Ian McShane in HBO’s Deadwood years ago.

Now the presence of all they crows would seem to indicate that one returning member of the cast has a bigger part to play – Mr. Dewey Crowe…

It would seem that the Crowe family will be a focus this season, especially being that Michael Rapaport has joined to the cast to play Dale Crowe Jr...

Rapaport will play Dale Crowe, Jr., the sexy and charismatic patriarch of a white-trash Florida crime family. Dale’s an ex-convict who owns a gator farm; he is smart, savvy and ruthless, all in the name of family.  - TV Line

I don’t know how “sexy and charismatic” they will be able to make a gator farmer played by Rapaport, but the writers are pretty good. Additionally the cast has added some other famous faces as well, including David Koechner (Anchorman) who will play ‘Deputy Sutter’, and Alicia Witt (Urban Legend), Jason Gray-Stanford (Monk) as members of the Crowe family. Here are some pics from the premiere…

The premiere, titled “A Murder of Crowes” will air on January 7, 2014.
