Did you know there was a new Crow movie in the works? It’s true! And not only is there a new movie based on the James O’Barr comic book character, but the film’s producers have even selected the next actor to portray the avian-named titular character.
According to a post on Deadline Hollywood from this weekend, Luke Evans will appear as the Crow in the new movie. While his name may not be too familiar just yet, Evans is beginning to carve out quite the resume of geek-friendly roles, even before having been cast as the newest incarnation of the Crow. The post points out that he’ll be appearing as Bard the Bowman in this year’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and he’ll be reprising his role in the third and final installment in The Hobbit trilogy next year as well. Add that role to his appearance in 2011’s Immortals, and 2010’s Clash of the Titans, and Evans’ credits in movies that are larger-than-life seem to make him a good choice for the new movie.
So who’s behind this new Crow flick? That would be Spanish filmmaker F. Javier Gutiérrez, whose first movie was called Before the Fall, depicting a world that discovers that an Earth-destroying meteor will fall in three days. Sounds like just the kind of pedigree for the bleak, gothic fantasy of The Crow, wouldn’t you say?
