Get ready road dogs, the apocalyptic demolition derby known as the Mad Max franchise is preparing to make a big come back in with its latest nitro powered entry Fury Road in 3D!
Director George Miller has returned to helm the the newest film in the franchise that catapulted him to stardom. Partnering with Warner Bros and Village Roadshow Pictures, the movie will be hitting the big screen on May 15th, 2015. Miller will be the film’s producer, director, and writer which guarantees that the film firmly has its roots deep in the original concept. Shot in the wilds of Namibia, the film will hopefully have that same sense of desolation and emptiness that the Australian outback evoked in the previous films.
Tom Hardy takes over the role previously made famous by Mel Gibson, who was rumored to appaer in a cameo, but that was recently debunked by Miller. The cast also boasts Oscar Winner Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, and Rosie Huntington-Whitely. While we don’t know much of Fury Road‘s story, we’re sure that if it includes the kind of mind bending car stunts that made the original films so visually stunning it really won’t matter. With the recent success of car films like the Fast and the Furious franchise the time seems right for the Mad Max series to make a triumphant comeback.
Mad Max: Fury Road will be coming out right around the same time as The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which could put a damper on its box office reception. On the other hand the whole post-apocalyptic genre might re-ignite much like the zombie trend. Who knows? We’ll have to wait until 2015 to find out, but until then, here’s a little footage from the Mad Max video game to tide you over until then!
