Could The Avengers be heading to the small screen? Eh, not exactly.
According to Deadline, a television series set in “The Avengers world” is currently being considered by Marvel’s TV division and ABC. While the show will carry a “light” connection with Joss Whedon’s film, it’s highly unlikely that any characters from it will appear in the series.
So, without utilizing the main roster of The Avengers, what could the series be? Marvel apparently doesn’t even know at the moment, although the Deadline post mentions “a high concept cop show” as one of the ideas being kicked around. To me, though, that idea sounds too similar to Powers, which FX will likely have on the air before this gets going.
How about a series featuring the black ops offspring of The Avengers, Secret Avengers? Aside from Hawkeye and Black Widow, the group’s roster features no characters used in Whedon’s film, so it could work with minor alterations. This would make crossovers with the film series easily doable, too.
