The collectible figure market is an area that constantly strives for perfection.
When the sculpt, bust or figure creators are not increasing the amount of articulation in their product, then they are looking at ways to get the best possible representation of a character, whether that’s the artist’s interpretation of said character or just a truly good sculpt of the character themselves.
Now we cover a lot of figure releases from all areas of fandom. If it is DC Collectibles you are looking for, or old school sculpts of fan favorite figures from Funko and Super 7, we have it covered. However, today we will look at a whole mass of releases from Marvel coming out this year, especially with Sideshow Collectibles (who put out Marvels Premium line) celebrating their 20th anniversary.
The Marvel Premium Figure collection comes to us courtesy of Sideshow Collectibles, and in August of this year they unleashed a detailed collector’s figure of Emma Frost. In a 1:4 scale and designed by Kris Anka, this release is out now with a price tag of $369.99. Marvel and Sideshow Collectibles give us a pouting, sultry and buxom White Queen that looks to be well worth the price tag. Emma Frost looks like she has stepped straight out of a comic book and has a great amount of detail sculpted into her, especially in the facial area, making Miss Frost look quite menacing and yet calmly uncaring all at the same time. The figure comes in two versions, one of which has Emma sporting a shorter hair style.
Emma Frost is not the only figure coming out from Marvel, nor is she the only female. Fellow mutant Jean Grey (again created by Kris Anka) also joins Miss Frost in the Premium figure collection, with Jean wearing her 90’s X-Men attire and in classic telepathic battle stance. Her figure is released in March 2015 and retails at $359.99 for a limited run of 750.
We also have Black Widow (sculpted by Tim Miller) coming our way in August and limited to 1500. Again Sideshow gives us a superb facial sculpt. The figure has a price tag of $359.99.
Staying with 2014 releases now and fresh from his cameo in X-Men: Days of Future Past is Apocalypse. With a price tag of $599.99, he stands triumphant with gun arm raised in victory and is a whopping 19.5 inches in size. It will be released in December and is limited to 1500 pieces.
Coming in September 2014 there are 1500 figures of the Merc With A Mouth (and one of the stars of this year’s San Diego Comic Con with his CGI footage release) up for sale at #359.99. Deadpool is attired in his Uncanny X-Force grey costume. This sculpt is great and manages to show Deadpool’s cocky attitude by just a tilt of his head.
The Red Skull also arrives in figure form this month with a run of 1500 (with a sculpt by Matt Black). This release is a good choice by Marvel, especially with the importance the Red Skull has in future Marvel comic storylines. He comes in his Nazi World War II attire and costs $369.99.
Last but certainly not least, smashing into August, we have the leader of the new Thunderbolts, the Red Hulk. This is another huge figure, coming in at 20 inches with a cost of $359.99 and a bigger run of 1750.
Marvel certainly have a lot of interesting collectibles waiting to be released in 2014 and 2015 (which can all be purchased via the Sideshow Collectibles website) but check back with Geek in the future to see what else Marvel has in store for 2014 and 2015.
