Monster, Gosling’s directorial debut, looks to be a hybrid of every genre geeks hold near & dear to their hearts – horror, suspense and fantasy. Here’s how Variety describes the story: “…set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city and centered on a single mother (Christina Hendricks) of two being swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.” All that and Matt Smith? Count me in.
Currently, the only other members of the cast are Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn and Rob Zabrecky. I don’t believe Gosling has mentioned whether or not he’ll be in front of the camera for this affair. Hopefully that’s the case; I’d be willing to watch him in anything, including his bedroom through binoculars (yes, I know I said that in a post about Ryan Reynolds).
It’s been TOO long since Pan’s Labyrinth; we could use a classy macabre fantasy tale. How to Catch a Monster begins shooting this may and is scheduled to be released in 2014. I’ll be there on day one. How about you?
