In an interview with The Sun, Matt Smith has assuaged the fears of Doctor Who fans by revealing that he’d be staying with the program until “at least” 2014. The actor seemed to be pondering turning the T.A.R.D.I.S. keys over to someone else after the next season, but Steven Moffat convinced him to stick around a while longer. It's no secret that the Doctor's current companions, Amy and Rory, will be leaving this season, so this is definitely welcomed news.
Smith also discussed how they’ll be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who next year. He had this to say: “”We want to do 50 years — and everyone that’s been associated with the show — justice.” Several notable figures from the Who-niverse are rumored to be returning, including David Tennant. Whether the cameos will occur in a documentary or a “Five Doctors”-esque special has yet to be mentioned.
Doctor Who returns to air in the UK and America on August 25.
