Fox's upcoming Batman prequel, Gotham, is really beginning to take shape!
It’s a surprise to find out exactly how fast the show’s cast is coming together – it seems like the only main cast member missing is young Bruce Wayne himself!
As alluded to already, Gotham will take place during the childhood of Bruce Wayne, who will be about 12 years old. It’s assumed that the show will be more about the adults than it is about young Bruce. One adult it’ll focus on in particular is pre-Commissioner James Gordon, who takes on the insurmountable task of tracking down and arresting members of Gotham’s underworld. It’s expected that the case surrounding the deaths of Bruce’s parents will be a part of the pilot. As we reported earlier, Ben McKenzie has been cast as Jim Gordon, and he has been joined by four more cast members.
The Walking Dead guest star Robin Taylor will play a young Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin. However, instead of being a ruthless kingpin, he’s just at the level of menial psychopathic gangster, working for a bigger criminal named Fish Mooney.
Sean Pertwee who played ‘Smith’ in the 1997 sci-fi/horror Event Horizon, and in recent years has been seen on shows such as Elementary, Camelot, and Luther will play the Wayne Manor butler and Bruce’s guardian (and ex-Marine) Alfred.
Zabyrna Guevara from Burn Notice will play Gordon’s boss, Captain Essen. Comic fans will remember that Gordon and Essen eventually end up together before she is torn from the mortal coil by the Joker…
And finally Erin Richards (Merlin, Breaking In) will play Gordon’s fiancee, Barbara Kean, an emergency room doctor and loyal supporter of Gordon during his trials and tribulations as a detective.
There’s even better news if you’re wary of the upcoming Ben Affleck-starring Batman vs. Superman film. It’s been confirmed that the Fox television project will not be related to the film in any way. So if you were worried about that, you can breathe a sigh of relief. The show will also not be related to the CW’s Arrow series.
