How great are these? Classic films transported to an even more classic time period, recast with the iconic actors of that era.
Christopher Walken as the T-100 in Terminator 2! I want to go to that movie just to see how they’d do the liquid metal effects in the 1960s. And James Dean as the Driver in Drive? Perfect casting. Ryan Gosling was essentially channeling Dean on looks and Steve McQueen in Bullitt in demeanor anyway. And why is it easy to imagine William Shatner playing the lead in a mid-60s no CGI Howard Hawks directed version of Avatar? Although Nimoy in Die Hard is a bit of a stretch. The Fifth Element with Sean Connery! The Hangover starring Martin, Lewis, and Lemmon! Groundhog Day with Peter Sellers? Genius! Paul Newman in a Francis Ford Coppola version of Unbreakable? I will go back in time to get in line right this minute (as soon as I’m done drooling)!
Too bad there’s no real alternate reality that we know of where these films actually exist. Even if they were awful films, they’d still be a treat to see.
The good news is that artist Peter Stults has been doing this for awhile and is still making a number of them available as prints on his site for only $25 each!
Which are your favorites? And what films would you like to see depicted in this style next?
