Archer

Archer has continually been regarded as one of the most highly respected animated shows on television today, so it was no surprise when FX announced that they had picked up the show for three more seasons. At Comic Con this year, the cable network announced the new direction the show will be taking as well as an answer to that dramatic ending of season 7.

Now it is hard to talk about the upcoming season 8 without some major season 7 spoilers, so if you’re not caught up, read no further! Or spoil yourself, just don’t say you weren’t warned.

There is no footage out online yet, nor is there even a promo picture for the new season, but the panel featured an in-depth teaser for Archer: Dreamland. As you can probably guess, this means that Archer did not in fact die at the end of season 7 after getting shot Jay Gatsby-style. However, Archer and the gang will not be back as their normal characters in the entire eighth season, but rather it will take place in Archer’s coma induced subconscious, set in the year 1947.

With a very noir vibe, all the characters will be reassigned as completely new people in Archer’s dreamland. Lana is a singer at a club, where Krieger is a bartender. Malory is now known as M, and is not Archer’s mother and the rest of the cast continues to follow suit as very different characters than we are used to seeing.

It is incredibly encouraging to see this show be able to change forms and do so many different things, and it seems that the creators never run out of creative juice. This season really looks moody and fantastic, but retains the hilarity we have grown accustomed to on the show.

Stay tuned for season 8, Archer: Dreamland.
