Andy Muschietti’s IT: Chapter Two is already on the way, with a release scheduled for September 6th, 2019. Basically, we know that Pennywise is coming back, but this newly released alternate ending for Chapter One teases his return a little bit more obviously. The new ending doesn’t take anything anyway from the theatrical release. Instead, the scene continues for just a bit longer, showing Bill as he gets ready to leave for a family vacation. As the car drives away, the camera closes in on a nearby storm drain. A low growling is heard, it starts to rain, and the film cuts to black.
IT was released on Blu-Ray this week, and the release is packed with a bunch of new features, but you might want to hold out for a follow-up release. According to MovieWeb:
The IT Blu-ray contains 11 deleted and/or extended scenes and several featurettes. The bonus features are pretty solid, but we know that director Andy Muschietti is working on a director’s cut of the movie as well. That director’s cut isn’t on this version of the home video released, so that means the studio is probably going to release another version of it down the line. Not only is there a decent chance this extended scene could be in it, but that’s something you may want to consider before rushing out and buying the movie right away.
It’s something to think about, especially considering how easy it is to rent movies from your TV now. The director’s cut will probably come to Blu-Ray and DVD around the time that Chapter Two is gearing up for its release. That is definitely a long time to wait, especially if you can’t wait to see the deleted scenes and extra features. Regardless, IT was one of the year’s most popular movies and will find an even bigger audience on VOD and home video, especially for teenagers who weren’t able to see the R-rated film in theaters.
IT is currently available on Blu-Ray and DVD.
