The most critical casting for CW’s new version of Charmed has been completed: all three of the witchy sisters. Who are these new-day iterations of Piper, Prue, and Phoebe? Turns out their names are Macy, Mel, and Madison, and will respectively be portrayed by Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, and Sarah Jeffery.
Mantock is coming off of two seasons of Into the Badlands, the post-Apocalyptic kung-fu action extravaganza, where she played Veil, one of the society’s precious few doctors and the love interest of main character Sunny (Daniel Wu). Her character, Macy, is a scientist who will be rocked by the discovery that magic exists.
Diaz, whose prior credits include The Belko Experiment, Fruitvale Station, and HBO’s Room 104, will portray Mel. This middle sister is described as an outspoken activist and lesbian.
The third sister, Jeffery’s Madison, is a college student who’s more into sorority life than vanquishing the forces of evil. Jeffery’s past experience includes the Jennifer Lopez-starring drama Shades of Blue, Wayward Pines, and Princess Audrey on Disney’s Descendants.
The CW’s description of the new Charmed, which is helmed by Jane the Virgin’s creator-showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman, is that it’s a “fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.”
