A lot of people are very unhappy with Jared Leto right now. His Suicide Squad performance was not well-received by critics or fans, and the art house junkies are pissed that Leto is currently the Chief Creative Officer of Fandor, a streaming website that specializes in micro-budget, foreign, and documentary films. Now, there are reports that Leto is up for the lead role in Valiant’s Bloodshot movie, one of the foundational films in the comic book company’s planned cinematic universe.
Whether or not you’re a fan of Leto’s work in Suicide Squad, this news is pretty surprising and could mean a couple of things. There is the possibility that the Bloodshot movie doesn’t conflict with any upcoming DCEU work Leto might have to do, but it’s more likely that this new venture is a way out of any future as the Joker, and an opportunity to get in with another cinematic universe at the ground floor. However, the most important question here is: would Jared Leto make a good Bloodshot?
It’s hard to tell. Leto isn’t exactly known for playing the most conventionally masculine characters, but it’s possible that he’d surprise us all with an entertaining take on the character. It’s going to be hard to take it too seriously until it’s confirmed, but as of now Leto is definitely not a name I expected to hear anywhere close to a Bloodshot movie, but it isn’t the worst idea in the world and there’s a lot he could do with the character. It’ll also be interesting to hear more about the film’s story as we get closer to the release of Bloodshot: Salvation, which hits the shelves on September 20th of this year!
