We haven’t heard much news from the production of Netflix and Marvel’s Daredevil, which is about to begin work on its third season. The last bit of news we heard was an animated tweet that teased the funeral of Matthew Murdock, who we last saw in the final moments of The Defenders after seemingly sacrificing himself and Elektra, only to awake in what comic fans assumed to be a church, based on the probable adaptation of the “Born Again” storyline.
The latest news comes in the form of a new casting, with Hart of Dixie‘s Wilson Bethel set to take on a “critical role in the conflict between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, better known as Daredevil and Kingpin respectively.” This new role has many fans calling back to an allegedly leaked casting call for FBI Agent Stanley Carter, who in the comics takes an experimental drug that drives him insane before he becomes the Sin-Eater.
While the Sin-Eater did operate against Daredevil as well, he’s probably best known for his role in Eddie Brock AKA Venom’s origin story. Prior to becoming Venom, reporter Eddie Brock misreported a story about the true identity of the Sin-Eater, which caused him to lose his job after Spider-Man unmasked the real villain. This led to his eventual bonding with the Venom symbiote, and a few returns of the B-level villain over the years to face off against Venom.
There is no confirmation on which role Bethel could be portraying, but some fans were also quick to point out the possibility that Bethel could also be bringing the character of Bullseye to the small screen. This ‘critical’ role could very well be as a hitman for Kingpin to use against the Man Without Fear, though we’ll have to wait for further confirmation on Bethel’s role, as well as Bullseye’s involvement, which has yet to be confirmed or really even teased. We just really really really want to see Bullseye show up.
Who do you think Bethel might be playing in the third season of Daredevil? Would you rather see the Sin-Eater or Bullseye, or yet another great new creation for the MCU? Let us know in the comments section below and join the discussion on the GEEK FB page!
