Star Wars Story - Han Solo

The upcoming Han Solo movie has already had more twists and turns than a terrible, overly long pod race scene. The production lost 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie directors Lord and Miller mere weeks before filming was set to wrap, and they were promptly replaced by veteran director Ron Howard. The movie regrettably lost actor Michael K. Williams (Boardwalk Empire) to Ron Howard’s onslaught of re-shoots, but then they gained actor Paul Bettany (The Avengers) in an undisclosed role. Now, things are about to get even more wild with the addition of a little-known character named Darth Vader.

According to a report by That Hash Tag Show, Vader has reportedly been spotted on the set of the Han Solo movie in recent weeks. The degree of involvement of the Dark Lord of the Sith is unknown at this time, but you can bet for sure his presence will fill seats and get the fanboys all sorts of riled up.

But really, is this a wise decision? It seems like at this point Ron Howard is reshooting nearly the entire movie and with the addition of Vader, it’s clear they are trying to lure in fans who may have had doubts after all of the negative director news flying around out there. It would be interesting to see if Vader was included in the film’s original plans or if he was just added to spice up an already troubled production.

It’s doubtful that Vader will get nearly as much screen time as he did in Rogue One, as Disney running the risk of overusing him at this point. With reports of an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie heating up, is there any question that he will somehow factor into that movie as well? Even if he and Obi can’t cross paths in the movie, it doesn’t mean we won’t get any Vader scenes. Honestly, I don’t think a Han Solo movie, nor a Kenobi movie need Darth Vader at all, and if Disney wants to branch out and explore other parts of the expansive universe they now own, they’ll eventually have to make a movie sans Vader.

What does everyone think? Is adding Vader a good thing or is the Han Solo movie a roll of the dice and possible trainwreck at this point? Use the Force and sound off in the comments section!

Are we in danger of grossly over-using Darth Vader? Is the Han Solo project getting desperate?
