After rumors swirling around Kerry Washington and Janelle Monae recently surfaced online, there was a lot of ambiguity as to who would be playing Domino in the upcoming Deadpool 2. It’s now been confirmed that Zazie Beetz, best known for her role as Val on FX’s Atlanta, has been cast in the role. The news broke after Ryan Reynolds tweeted this clever (but admittedly hard to read) visual gag online.

Beetz’s casting is yet another example that Reynolds and Co. are really taking Deadpool 2 a lot more seriously. Her work on Atlanta resulted in one of the show’s best performances, and it’s going to be great to see her channel that energy into a character who will literally be kicking ass and taking names.

Not to be confused with Tony Scott’s underrated 2005 film starring Keira Knightley, Domino is a mutant mercenary much like Deadpool himself, and her inclusion in the film alongside Cable – who still hasn’t been officially cast – ensures that Deadpool 2 will, at the very least, be one of 2018’s most violent films.

It seems like the Deadpool team is gearing up for that X-Force movie we’ve been hearing so much about, as Simon Kinberg recently revealed plans following Deadpool 2 for an official X-Force film, one that might even be directed by Joe Carnahan. Was this the reason he dropped out of directing Bad Boys III? If so, it better be worth it.
