The Doctor Who Christmas special is nearly upon us, and the BBC is giving fans an early present with the new trailer, feature a very confused Grandfather:
The official episode synopsis revealed more details about the episode, titled Twice Upon A Time:
The magical final chapter of the Twelfth Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) journey sees the Time Lord team up with his former self, the first ever Doctor (David Bradley – Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) and a returning Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), for one last adventure. Two Doctors stranded in an Arctic snowscape, refusing to face regeneration.Enchanted glass people, stealing their victims from frozen time. And a World War One captain destined to die on the battlefield, but taken from the trenches to play his part in the Doctor’s story.
Rumour has it that the set for the special was an emotional one, which hopefully will serve to fuel Capaldi’s final performance. The Christmas Specials of yore have often been filled with a hearty helping of hope for humanity, and we have high hopes despite a story that includes three dying men. The Doctor Who Christmas Special: Twice Upon A Time also marks the passing of the baton to the new Doctor, Jodie Whittaker. Perhaps this Christmas she will be our happy ending.
Fans of Mackie, who is also leaving the show, are getting a bit extra over the holiday break, as she brings two family-friendly books to life. The soon to be former Companion will make her first appearance on CBeebies Bedtime story on Christmas Eve, where she’ll be reading a sci-fi-themed story – Deborah Underwood and Meg Hunt’s Interstellar Cinderella, “a retelling of the classic fairy tale with a heroine who dreams of fixing space rockets.”
Macki will return New Years Day to read Ellie’s Magic Wellies by Amy Sparkes and Nick East. This story follows a strange creature called a Flibberty-Gibberty who makes a big mess in the house, something her alter ego Bill might know a thing or two about.
