This Saturday, Oct. 29, local comic shops nationwide will be hosting the fifth annual Halloween ComicFest, a spooky celebration of comics, culture, and costumes. More than 20 publishers are sponsoring the event, making available free comics for properties as popular as the Star Wars franchise, Geek Magazine fave Evil Dead, Disney’s Haunted Mansion, My Little Pony, and many more.

Also available for purchase will be packs of kid-friendly mini-comics (25 per bundle) that can be safely given to trick-or-treaters on Halloween instead of (or in addition to!) candy. Titles include Pokemon, The Nightmare before Christmas, Grumpy Cat, and Johnny Boo.

Stars from the pending Riverdale television show, KJ Apa (Archie) and Camila Mendes (Veronica) – in costume – encouraged fans to attend the event, and perhaps pick up one of Archie Comics’ offerings: an Afterlife With Archie free comic or the Archie’s Madhouse mini-comic bundle to give Halloween visitors a treat.

Participating stores can be found here.

The event also involves a costume contest. Simply don your costume and get a photo of yourself holding your free comics from Halloween ComicFest, then upload that photo. Prizes will be awarded across five categories: Superhero/Comic; TV/Movie; Horror; Gamer; and Original. Participants can win up to $500 for use at their local comics shop. You can check out all the details here.
