Syfy’s breakout hit Happy! premiered less than 2 months ago, but before its first season finale, the quirky comedy series starring Christopher Meloni and featuring the voice of Patton Oswalt has already been renewed for a second season.
Based on the Image Comics series of the same name by creators Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson, Happy! follows Nick Sax (Christopher Meloni), an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hitman, who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue winged horse named Happy (Patton Oswalt).
“Happy! struck a chord with our Syfy audience and disrupted the TV landscape with its unique storytelling and outrageous performances led by Christopher Meloni,” Chris McCumber, president of entertainment networks at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, said Monday in a statement. “If people thought this season was crazy — I can’t wait for fans to see what Grant Morrison, Brian Taylor, and the entire cast and crew have in store for Sax and Happy!”
Happy! is just about to finish up its freshman season and it looks like we’re in for some must-see TV. Sax and Happy are locked in a climactic confrontation to rescue Hailey from Very Bad Santa’s lair, as Merry sets out to save Amanda from a far more powerful foe.
The series co-stars Bryce Lorenzo as Hailey, Lili Mirojnick as Det. Meredith McCarthy, Patrick Fischler as Smoothie, Ritchie Coster as Mr. Blue (aka Leonardo Scaramucci), Medina Senghore as Amanda Hansen, and Joseph Reitman as Very Bad Santa.
