The newest iteration of Hellboy has been speedily moving through its production, with the announcement of the film, director, and cast all following pretty quickly. We’ve even already seen our first look at new star David Harbour as the titular character, though we still weren’t sure when we would be seeing Neil Marshall’s adaptation of Mike Mignola’s iconic story.
That date has finally been revealed, and we will get to see Hellboy in theaters on January 11, 2019. The new reboot stars the aforementioned Harbour, who is probably best known for his recent role in Stranger Things as Sheriff Jim Hopper. He will be joined by a pretty talented bunch of actors like Milla Jovovich’s, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, and Daniel Dae Kim, to name a few. While there hasn’t been an official confirmation of the story of the film, it’s fairly obvious to fans based on the characters and imagery teased for the newest Hellboy will attempt to adapt “The Wild Hunt” storyline.
Marshall has promised a bloodier R-rated film that will dive back into the source material:
“We’ve been granted permission to do it R-rated, which for me is just like taking the cuffs off. It’s like, okay, so now we can just make the movie we want to make. Nobody’s going to stop us. So, that’s the main [difference]. And I’m sure, obviously, the success of things like Deadpool and Logan have not hurt that cause. But, also, when you go back the original material, it is kind of bloody, so I’m going to embrace that.”
