Star Wars

One of the best new comics to come from Marvel as a part of their new run with the Star Wars brand has been the Doctor Aphra series. The book features Doctor Aphra, an archaeologist that is mostly out for her self which means she sometimes crosses paths with Imperials as well as Rebels. We first met the good doctor in the Darth Vader comic written by Kieron Gillen where she helped Vader hunt the young Rebel that blew up the first Death Star – Luke Skywalker. Later, she even crosses paths with Luke herself in during the Screaming Citadel crossover that took place in the Aprha book and the main Star Wars line.

Now, it was recently it was revealed that Aphra would be bumping into another newly established character, and a fan favorite character in the new canon, the one and only Hera Syndulla from Star Wars Rebels. Hera will be appearing in issue #18, which is slated to hit shelves in March. Here’s the official synopsis for the issue:

“Doctor Aphra is being blackmailed by Triple-Zero to run missions for his underground crime syndicate — but that doesn’t mean she can’t cause trouble and have fun along the way! Sometimes that fun means infiltrating Rebellion training grounds…and sometimes that trouble means crossing paths with famed rebel Hera Syndulla herself!”

The issue should be pretty interesting as both Aphra and Hera happen to be two of the most resourceful characters in the galaxy. Not to mention the fact that at this point, Hera’s a pretty big deal in the Rebellion. Not only is she a war hero that fought in the battle of Scarif as her ship The Ghost can be spotted during the space battle in Rogue One, the movie also reveals that Hera is a general in the Rebellion when a voice on the PA asks for “General Syndulla” to report to the briefing room. Having dealt with plenty of trouble in her time, it will be great to see what Aphra has in store for Hera and the Rebels.

Doctor Aphra is also written by Gillen and issue #18 will feature artwork from Emilio Laiso with the cover being done by Ashley Witter. A variant cover done by Rod Reis will also be available.
