Before The Flash movie was sent back into development hell, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa was well into pre-production, having gone as far as casting a few of the film’s supporting roles, including Dope star Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. Some information regarding her role has surfaced, including a confirmed cameo in Justice League. This pretty much cements that Clemons is one of Famuyiwa’s contributions to The Flash that will be maintained despite his departure.
The news came to light after an interview with Clemons, in which she said:
“This November, I’m making a cameo in Justice League as Iris West and it’s the first time that you meet her before we get to see her in The Flash with Ezra Miller,” Clemons revealed. “It was my first time doing something so extravagant like that. We filmed in London and that’s one of my favorite places.”
In the original comics, Iris West is a reporter at the Picture News in Central City. She’s also the fiancee of Barry Allen. The parallels between this romantic duo and the Clark Kent/Lois Lane pairing are undeniable, and it’ll be interesting to see how (or if) that’s addressed in the films, and also how their relationship is portrayed in contrast with The CW’s DC output.
Additionally, the more we hear about all these Justice League appearances, the clearer it becomes why the film clocks in at 170 minutes. However, in light of the recent news about writer-director Joss Whedon’s “extensive” reshoots, the runtime may change depending on how extensive the shoots really are. It’s unclear whether the scenes are meant to condense pre-existing material or to develop what’s already in the movie with new scenes and characters. Regardless, there are going to be a lot of characters, and hopefully they don’t all get lost in the shuffle.
Justice League is in theaters on November 17th!
