The interwebs were abuzz recently with a new image that was allegedly leaked from the as yet untitled Avengers 4. The image features a new team of Avengers made up of the survivors of Avengers: Infinity War, and featured a few interesting details that had fans talking. You can check out the full ‘leaked’ image below, and there will, of course, be spoilers ahead for Infinity War:
One of the biggest talking points was that the Hulk is wearing a uniform, which had fans assuming that Banner and Hulk had worked their Infinity War issues out to become the merged Smart Hulk, while the inclusion of Rocket and Nebula seemed to indicate there would be a similar merging of teams following Thanos’ ‘snap’ that decimated the galaxy. The image also features the first appearance of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel alongside the Avengers, though the colors of her uniform match her comic appearance and not the green-hued Kree version we have seen in set photos.
Of course, this also doesn’t quite fit the mold of most concept art from the Marvel Studios Visual Development Team, who we previously discussed during our interview with concept artist Anthony Francisco. I reached out to Francisco when the new image dropped to see if we could get clarification on this supposedly leaked concept art.
Francisco: That’s definitely not from our department. Was this just ‘leaked’ today?
GEEK: Looks like it, yeah.
It looks like fan art but I could be wrong.
There’s a definite photoshop feel to it where the characters feel placed, as opposed to your team’s art style that generally provides the whole scene.
It’s very cut out. Our stuff, especially the book covers are done a bit more painted. Not as contrasted and using photos for the faces. We usually paint our faces.
For comparison, here’s a look at some concept art that was previously shared with us from the Marvel Studios VDT:
So while it’s exciting to see a potential look at a new team of Avengers, this one is apparently not an official image from Marvel Studios Visual Development Team. Disappointing, I know. So to cheer everyone up a bit here’s a killer poster Anthony Francisco did recently for Sideshow Collectibles that features Miles Morales vs Venom, though it, unfortunately, is not a precursor of things to come in the MCU.
Reserve your copy! LINK IN BIO!! Heres the full poster I illustrated for @sideshowcollectibles . It's a limited print run so get it while it's available! – #milesmorales VS #venom Venom has been one of my favorite villains , partly because I was also a big fan of the alien suit when spiderman used to wear it. – – – #comicbookposter #spiderman #marveluniverse #spiderverse #badass #scary #monster #action #aliensymbiote #symbiote #symbiotic
Thanks again to Anthony Francisco for clarifying some of the rumors about this new piece of art. Keep it locked to GEEK as we’ll examine just what kind of Avengers teams we might be seeing in the near future of the MCU.
