While the new image doesn’t reveal much beyond the fact that we can get excited by the smallest look at these cinematic versions of some of our favorite heroes, it does give us our first look at the newly formed team standing together in the film, with only one member noticeably absent.

Justice League Hi-Res Team Photo

The new hi-res image showcases what must be a scene later on in the film as the team disembark’s from Batman’s Flying Fox aircraft, which we’ve seen before in the teased image of Deathstroke. We can tell it’s later in the film as the image features an in-costume Aquaman, something previous trailers had yet to show despite other members of the team showing up together in costume. We also see Ben Affleck in the Tactical Batsuit, which still looks too much like Watchmen‘s Nite Owl for my liking, thanks to the goggles seen in the picture. Of course, there is one very important element still largely missing from the released trailers and pictures, save for one promotional image of the full team released shortly after the Comic-Con trailer.

Just where is Henry Cavill’s Superman? Yes, I know, he died in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But we all know that death is fleeting in the comic universe, and you can’t tell the “Death and Return of Superman” storyline without that crucial “Return” aspect. Cavill has teased his costume from Justice League on Twitter before, which was black and white and alluded to the Kryptonian regeneration costume he wore in the aforementioned storyline, though we’ve also seen the classic red-and-blue showcased in the original promo picture as well. While I’m usually all for keeping the majority of the movie under wraps and out of the trailers, I can’t help wonder why we have yet to see anything revealed about the fate of Superman, unless it’s to avoid spoiling the reveal to the parts of the audience who don’t know how comics work.
