Kingsman: The Secret Service was a surprise shot in the arm into the action genre when it came out in 2014, and we’re happy to say it’s getting a well-deserved sequel in Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The original was a visual kaleidoscope of action, exciting set pieces, and charismatic characters, and it begged for that world to be explored more after the film’s conclusion. Not to be outdone by any other action franchises, the hype has begun for Kingsman: The Golden Circle, who’ve released a teaser that redefines the meaning of “tease,” by giving us mere snapshots of the goods from the flick. Here’s the trailer, and see what you notice the first go round.
After watching that teaser about 30 actual times, each time I found a new and interesting little thing to pause on, as I’m sure any of you would when you play it for yourself. Some choice grabs are here:
Channing Tatum & Halle Barry
Channing Tatum as a cowboy secret agent named TEQUILA? Storm as his handler? Incredible.
I very strongly believe that every movie can be made better with robot dogs. Hopefully man-eating ones.
Following in the tradition of prosthetically enhanced assassins, robot arms complement robot dogs nicely.
This Really Cool Looking Temple
If nothing else, this shows the movie has some range to its locations, which is always welcome.
Poppy Land and Poppy look like they’re going to play a crucial role in the movie, as they pop up a bunch in the teaser.
Our Eggsy unleashing a rocket from a suitcase on some poor fool.
After the death of lots of people – president included – in the original, it looks like the new president is more story integral. Politicalz!
Who doesn’t love a ton of gatling guns being fired at once?
Yeah, Ol’ Poppy is definitely behind something fishy alright.
All of those little snippets from the film build together pretty well to give you a good sense of what the movie’s plot is. It’s gonna be a bit political like the original, but it mainly looks like an action flick well aware of its strengths and weaknesses. Matthew Vaughn brought a new rhythm and flow to fighting scenes I’ve never quite seen in anything before or since, and his returning looks like the spark of the original is well intact and ready to give us all another glimpse into the intricately heightened reality of the Kingsman universe. That is if it does officially become a universe, but that’s something only Kingsman: The Global Circle’s end credits will let us know for sure.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle releases on September 29.
