Littlefinger met his very timely end a few weeks ago as Arya Stark expertly slit his throat and ensured his lies would be forever silenced. Luckily, Aiden Gillen is still around to give us a fix should we ever need it, and it looks like we’re going to be seeing Littlefinger’s mug pop up in a project that couldn’t be further from Game of Thrones — Bohemian Rhapsody.
Bryan Singer’s Freddie Mercury biopic is finally bringing the story of the late LGBTQ rocker to life after years of development hell. Mr. Robot‘s Rami Malek stars as Mercury.
Aiden Gillen will play John Reid, Queen’s manager from 1975 to 1978. The character’s pretty fascinating in his own right, too — no easy feat standing next to Freddie Mercury. Reid was openly gay at the time and also managing Elton John, with whom he shared a turbulent love affair in addition to their professional relationship. How much time the story will actually give to Reid is still largely in question, but we’re confident Aiden Gillen will breathe some very compelling life into the character regardless.
Oh, and to set your mind at ease about the end of his relatively short-lived stint as manager — Queen didn’t put him on surprise trial and execute him. They just terminated his contract and signed with Jim Beach, their manager to this day and one of the film’s producers. He’ll be played by Tom Hollander, an equally impressive talent you’ll know from The Night Manager and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
In addition to Bohemian Rhapsody, Aiden Gillen will also appear reprising his role as Janson in the Maze Runner series and as Irish author James Joyce in James and Lucia. The latter follows the story of Joyce and his daughter Lucia, a dancer who was diagnosed with schizophrenia in the mid-1930s.
