Star Wars

Over the last few years, Lucasfilm and Disney have partnered up with Omaze for a fundraising campaign called Force for Change. The idea behind it was to mobilize the massive Star Wars fan base into donating money that would go to organizations such as Unicef and the Boys and Girls Club of America, among others. The initiative was immensely successful by incentivizing fans with offers of outstanding prizes. For instance, leading up to The Force Awakens some of the prizes included meeting the cast at the premiere in Los Angeles and even being in the movie itself. This time last year fans that donated were entered for a chance to go to Star Wars Celebration in London to meet Mark Hamill.

Considering that they have raised more than $13 million since it was first launched back in 2014 it’s no surprise that they’re gearing up for another year of fundraising. Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley prepared a video that premiered on Good Morning America detailing this year’s campaign which is once again being done in conjunction with Omaze. Check it out!

Lucasfilm and Disney are really pulling out all the stops with this year being the 40th anniversary since Star Wars first released in theaters as this year’s prizes and opportunities are as fantastic as some of the ones featured in the past. Right now fans that donate have the opportunity to win an overnight stay at Skywalker Ranch and will eventually have the chance to appear in the young Han Solo film or go to the L.A. premiere of The Last Jedi.

For die-hard fans these fundraisers present a perfect opportunity to donate to some really great organizations and have the chance to win some truly outstanding prizes. The funds raised by this year’s campaign will benefit Unicef and Starlight, two organizations that do a lot to help provide basic needs and schooling to children in need.

The kind of Geek that has several shelves on my book case dedicated to Star Wars novels. Star Wars is essentially a way of life for me. Other things are cool too. Generally a big fan/critic of movies, I try to go to the theater once a week. There's a lot of great TV out there too, chances are if I can, I'll write about the stuff I love. I dig the Marvel and D.C. universes so far...except Suicide Squad...that was a disappointment. I love a lot of music but I gravitate to alternative and punk. The Libertines are my absolute favorite. Michigan born and raised and I root for my home teams; Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, Pistons and Spartans.
