It’s been a pretty great year for Naughty Dog. Despite an acute case of Development Hell-itis, The Last of Us continues to be one of the most celebrated games of all time, with its recently announced sequel shooting to the top of every gamer’s list of most anticipated titles. The Uncharted film, on the other hand, is moving forward with a new director, and the series’ fourth installment, A Thief’s End, was one of the year’s most successful games, garnering a number of nominations at this year’s Game Awards, including a win for Nolan North’s performance as Nathan Drake.
Not only was the game one of Naughty Dog’s best releases, it functioned as a perfect ending to the saga of its celebrated protagonist, whose story has spanned four games and a decade’s worth of content. So it might come as a surprise that the company behind Uncharted is already planning another installment in its wildly successful action-adventure franchise. Announced at this year’s PlayStation Experience convention, the forthcoming sequel, subtitled The Lost Legacy, is the series’ first story DLC, coming hot on the heels of A Thief’s End May release.
However, a 9-minute video showcasing a completed scene reveals that the game’s heroes to be Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross, who were introduced in Uncharted 2 and 4, respectively. The game’s official description is as follows:
“In order to recover a fabled ancient Indian artifact and keep it out of the hands of a ruthless war profiteer, Chloe Frazer must enlist the aid of renowned mercenary Nadine Ross (from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End). Together, they’ll venture deep into the mountains of India in search of the legendary artifact. Along the way, they’ll learn to work together to unearth the mystery of the artifact, fight their way through fierce opposition, and prevent the region from falling into chaos.”
Based on the video, which you can watch below, The Lost Legacy is going to be another hit for Naughty Dog, which has been producing better characters and stories than the ones on the big screen for some time now. It’s also worth noting that the DLC from their most recent output has been almost entirely driven by their game’s female characters, a much-needed change of pace in a male-dominated industry. Nadine was a highlight of A Thief’s End, and Ms. Frazer has been a fan-favorite since her first appearance some years ago, and expectations are high that The Lost Legacy will be one of 2017’s best games.
The Lost Legacy will be offered as a standalone game upon release, but players who already own the Uncharted 4 Deluxe Edition or Explorer’s Pack will receive the game as a free download. If you’ve been on the fence about dropping the $80 dollars for the game’s deluxe edition, you have until December 13th to decide if you expect to receive The Lost Legacy at some point next year.
