Just a few weeks after those mysterious Altered Carbon GIFs popped up on Reddit, Netflix has officially released a few teasers for the new show, including a date announcement that reveals a February 2nd, 2018 release for the first season. It started on November 30th, when an official Altered Carbon Twitter account (@AltCarb) released a video advertisement for Psychasec, the re-sleeving process featured in the story.

The teaser only runs about 30 seconds, and you can check it out right here:

Now, Netflix has released a much more revealing teaser, including a look at star Joel Kinnaman, who plays Takeshi Kovacs’ re-sleeved body. Additionally, there’s a whole write-up in Entertainment Weekly about the new show, complete with exclusive new images you can check out in the gallery below. Before the new sleeve, Takeshi is a contract killer played by Will Yun Lee who works with his sister Reileen Kawahara (Dichen Lachman). Takeshi is imprisoned and has his consciousness stored away, only to be awoken again centuries later in Joel Kinnaman’s body.

The only reason he’s been freed is to solve a murder for Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy), a “wealthy mogul” who hires Takeshi to find the person who killed his previous sleeve. It only seems right that, centuries in the future, the rich will be hiring people to solve their own murders.

I like that the story has cyberpunk elements with a lot of different storylines surrounding this one investigation. Takeshi gets caught up with a handful of other people, including a detective on his trail and “a veteran (Ato Essandoh) trying to free his imprisoned wife.”

You can take a look at the Entertainment Weekly images below, which include snapshots of Joel Kinnaman, Will Yun Lee, Dichen Lachman, Ato Essandoh, James Purefoy, Renee Elise Goldsberry (as Quell), Martha Higareda (as Kristin Ortega), and Chris Conner as an Edgar Allan Poe impersonator/hotel owner.

Altered Carbon comes to Netflix on February 2nd, 2018.
