Following the first big casting news for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba’s Umbrella Academy, the rest of the unique team of heroes has been announced. Ellen Page was the first member of the Hargreeve family to be cast, and she will portray Anya AKA White Violin. She will now be joined by a talented group of actors with some geeky history behind them.

The first addition to the cast will be Tom Hopper as Luther Hargreeves AKA Spaceboy. Hopper is most recognizable right now due to his role as Dickon *snicker* Tarly on HBO’s Game of Thrones. His character is the strongest member of the Hargreeves family, as he’s had his head attached to the body of a Martian Gorilla in order to save his life. It will be interesting to see how this aspect of his powers will be translated to the small screen.

Broadway star Emmy Raver-Lampman will be playing Allison Hargreeves AKA The Rumor. Raver-Lampman doesn’t have any film or TV credits, but she has toured with both Hamilton and Wicked to critical acclaim. The Rumor is feasibly the most powerful family member, though her power does cause her some limitations. The Rumor is actually able to change reality by lying, making reality fall in line with her fib. This causes her to express herself by notepad, for the most part, to avoid accidentally using her powers.

Robert Sheehan – who starred in global catastrophe dud Geostorm, but is more fondly remembered from his role on Misfits – will play Klaus Hargreeves AKA The Seance. His power is to speak with the dead as his name implies, but it also could mean that he is immortal himself, which results in the characters extreme drug addictions. Sheehan’s character on Misfits actually had a healing factor that resulted in his apparent immortality for a while, so it should be fun to see him play with a different side of the darkness he made us laugh at.

David Castañeda will play Diego Hargreeves AKA The Kraken, a badass vigilante with the power to hold his breath for a long time. I know, it doesn’t sound that impressive, but he’s also very skilled with knives and the only member of the family to remain in the crime-fighting business after the team breakups. Castañeda appeared on TV in Jane the Virgin and will hit the big screen in Soldado. Expect drama and ass-kickery from this one.

Number Five (00.05) AKA The Boy will be played by Aidan Gallagher, who’s starred on Nickelodeon’s Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn. His character has a very interesting power set and backstory, and will certainly offer the young actor a platform to showcase his skills. The Boy – as his adoptive father called him – is a time-traveling assassin whose body is trapped in time in its 12-year-old state.

Ben Hargreeves AKA The Horror is the last member of the family and still remains uncast, though he was always deceased in the comics and his death was never really explained, so we’ll have to wait and see how that will be touched upon in the series. The other missing name from the cast is their adoptive father Reg Hargreeves AKA The Monocle, but we expect that piece of casting to follow shortly.
