Following his appearance in season two of Daredevil, Jon Bernthal has become a fan favorite for his portrayal of Frank Castle – the former war veteran that turns vigilante after his family is brutally murdered in front of him. Last year saw the return of Bernthal as Castle when season one of The Punisher hit Netflix, becoming one of the best seasons Marvel has delivered on the streaming giant. Not only did it deliver on the kind of brutal vigilante justice Castle is known for dishing out, but it featured a strong villain, a mysterious narrative involving various governmental agencies and was steeped in themes of dealing with morality, loss and PTSD.

It was no shock when the series was renewed for a second season, and thankfully they’ve already begun production on it. The Punisher is currently filming on location in the Bellmores in New York. You can see a couple of the photos snapped by Scott Schmeizer below.

Not surprisingly, Bernthal is looking slightly bloodied after a shooting a fight scene, though it’s probably a safe bet to say his opponents are looking a bit worse than he is.

Recently they have announced a few new additions to the cast of the series for the upcoming second season. Floriana Lima who recently played Maggie Sawyer on The CW’s Supergirl has joined the cast as Krista Dumont. Additionally, The Dark Knight Rise’s Josh Stewart has been added as John Pilgrim, and Giorgia Whigham (The Orville) will portray Amy Bendix, a minor character who first appeared back in 1994, in Punisher: War Zone #24.

About the three additions, Marvel Head of TV Jeph Loeb says, “Josh, Floriana and Giorgia are all remarkable talents and we can’t wait for the audience to see what we have in store for them in the second season of Marvel’s The Punisher.”

The three of them join the already talented cast that includes Bernthal, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Deborah Ann Woll, Ben Barnes and Amber Rose Revah among others. While details about the second season are scarce, Ben Barnes is supposed to reprise his role as Billy Russo – this is especially interesting as the end of season one saw him become horrifyingly disfigured after Castle was done with him setting him up to fully become his supervillain alter ego of Jigsaw.

Season two of The Punisher is expected sometime in late 2018 or early 2019. Jessica Jones season two dropped on March 8, and Luke Cage S2 is coming in June.
