Batman

This Fourth of July the fireworks won’t just be going off overhead. Batman and Catwoman are taking a swing at matrimony, and you’re invited to the wedding!

Batman #50 won’t only fill the pews with fans, DC is bringing together a list of guests artists for the nuptials:

Superstar scribe Tom King officiates the sure-to-be-offbeat nuptials, joined by an all-star lineup of guest classic Bat-artists doffing their hats to the lucky couple in a series of pre-wedding flashback scenes sure to set the romantic mood.

Gearing up for the big day the Bat-Family have their hands full in the supplemental series Batman: Prelude To The WeddingRobin VS. Ra’s Al Ghul #1, Nightwing VS. Hush #1 are available now, with Batgirl VS. The Riddler #1, Harley Quinn VS. The Joker #1, and Red Hood Vs Anarky #1 coming out in the weeks leading up to the wedding. The series features art from Brad Walker, Drew Hennessy, Travis Moore, Minkyu Jung, Javier Fernandez, Sami Basri and covers by Rafael Albuquerque. Batman: Prelude To The Wedding will be released as a compilation in September.

It won’t just be the villains of Gotham stirring up trouble. Much like a real wedding, not everyone is happy with some of the choices the bride and groom are making. Fans are in a bit of a tizzy over who Batman chose to be his best man:

That’s right, instead of his partner and ward Dick Grayson/Nightwing, Batman chose Clark Kent to be his Best Man. OK, sure, he’s trustworthy and will probably write a decent toast for the reception, and the slight does lead the Dynamic Duo to a nice heart to heart about the distance that has grown between them with no hurt feelings, except among fans.

Of course, Grayson was a lot more understanding than The Joker.

Artist Joëlle Jones will be covering Catwoman/Selina’s side of the wedding day and has designed a stunning gown for the thief turned bride revealed on the Batman #44 cover, one of two covers revealing the wedding day attire for our normally leather glad couple.

The two covers, Batman’s designed by artist Mikel Janin, convey one of the reasons this couple works, they are not Selina and Bruce, they truly are Catwoman and Batman. Have they finally found a way to make this off again on again relationship really work?

Things have worked out for this couple before, once upon a time on Earth-2, so we have hope that we can look forward to an interesting approach to marriage from a complicated duo.

Batman #50 hits shelves July 4th, and you don’t even have to get up at 4 a.m to join in the celebration. Joëlle Jones, David Finch, Mikel Janin, Various, Lee Bermejo, Frank Miller, José Luis García-López, Ty Templeton, Becky Cloonan, Andy Kubert, Neal Adams, Rafael Albuquerque, Mitch Gerads will all contribute art, and the issue will feature variant covers from Scott Williams, Jim Lee, Olivier Coipel.
