Netflix rung in 2018 with a short but sweet teaser trailer for their whimsical retelling of the Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler) books of the same name, A Series of Unfortunate Events.

While the story follows the Baudelaire orphans – Violet, Klaus, and Sunny (Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, and Presley Smith) – on their journey from home to home following the untimely and highly suspicious demise of their parents, there can be little doubt that Neil Patrick Harris is the show’s true star. He has charmed us all as the children’s murderous and avaricious distant relative Count Olaf, who by all accounts has come by the title through nefarious means. While Olaf is a terrible actor who still somehow confounds the adults in the series, Harris shows his own talents in full force, giving the character an unexpected likability.

The show’s second season, which will premier on Netflix March 30th, features events inspired by books 5 through 9 of the gothic-inspired series; Austere AcademyThe Ersatz ElevatorThe Vile VillageThe Hostile Hospital, and The Carnivorous Carnival.

The orphans will meet a second adversary this season in the form of an adorably deviant little girl called Carmelita Spats (Kitana Turnbull), a fellow student at Prufrock Preparatory School, to which the siblings are sent in the absence of a suitable guardian. Patrick Warburton, who wins 10 fake internet points for his clever Instagram name, posted this picture of himself attempting to be as cool as his young cast mates.  Turnbull, the one in the pink, will be giving the Baudelaires an extra dose of trouble to deal with. Unfortunate indeed.

This season the changing cast of characters will feature a slew of other comedy greats including Warburton, who returns as our fearless, albeit morose narrator, Lemony Snicket himself. The great Nathan Fillion, Veep‘s Tony Hale, Sara Rue (Impostor), Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher), and Roger Bart (Desperate Housewives) will all appear.

The second season of A Series of Unfortunate Events will be available to bing March 30th.  Looking forward to another season of unfortunate events? Let us know in the comments below and visit us on GEEK FB.
