Star Wars Episode VIII

This month saw the grand unveiling of the full theatrical trailer and poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, raising numerous questions about the nature of the newest story from Lucasfilm. We now have a new behind-the-scenes video released for The Last Jedi that shows off a nice bit of production design, director Rian Johnson coaching Chewie, and a look at the always welcome ray of light, Carrie Fisher (Happy Belated, General!).

The video is reminiscent of the sizzle reel that debuted during the D23 Expo back in July, and features quotes from Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, and John Boyega telling us just how exciting the new directions are that this episode will take. Rian Johnson, the writer and director of the film, also discusses his personal connection with the Star Wars franchise, remarking how he had to balance being a fan and filmmaker on set at the same time.

We also got a quick glimpse of DJ, the character played by Benicio del Toro, who is walking alongside Finn and newcomer Rose Tico as they are dressed in First Order disguises. There is also a quick look at Ridley and Johnson in what appears to be Supreme Leader Snoke’s throne room.

With less than two months to go, we still haven’t been given very much info about Star Wars: The Last Jedi. By comparison, The Force Awakens had released upwards of three theatrical trailers, a host of behind the scenes videos as well as TV spots, interviews, photo spreads, and general merchandising that felt like a true second coming.

The Last Jedi

Also starring Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Andy Serkis (Snoke), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Dohmnall Gleeson (General Hux), and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), with Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.
