The CW has released quite a few things about the third season of Supergirl but so far, it’s mostly been broad plot hints. The most recent promo features some more concrete information about a villain we’ll likely meet in the premiere.
The promo starts with Kara in a voice-over saying, “what makes me me is Supergirl,” which is in line with what we’ve already been told will be a central theme of this season. A reaction to losing Mon-El, Kara is going to reject her identity as Kara Danvers and instead fully embrace and prioritize Supergirl. It looks like we’ll start to see that change immediately when the season starts and it’ll continue as an underlying motivation for Kara.
The short video also includes a classic Superman villain in a very brief introduction by Winn. Robert Du Bois AKA Bloodsport is seen in the promo claiming that “they’ll never see it coming,” which is likely a reference to a plan for tricking Supergirl, similar to a ploy used on Superman in the comics. Robert DuBois is one of several villains who claim the name Bloodsport for themselves. His most well-known appearance involved him baiting Superman into a fight and then shooting him with Kryptonite. This early in the season, the risk to Supergirl is pretty low, but it’ll be a nice start to some of the season’s arcs, including Cadmus’s plan. In the comics, Lex Luthor groomed Robert DuBois into Bloodsport and gave him the ability to teleport weapons as well as provided the Kryptonite gun. While it’s unlikely Lex will ever seriously enter the picture on Supergirl, his mother Lillian has played the villain in his place in the CW series, and she and Cadmus will probably mastermind Bloodsport’s entrance.
Expect the first episode to introduce quite a few new faces and set the tone for the season. Listed to appear in the first episode is the returning cast of Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Calista Flockhart, Katie McGrath, and Chris Wood as well as newcomers: Odette Annable as Reign, Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El, Yael Grobglas as Gayle Marsh/Psi, Carl Lumbly as M’yrnn J’onzz, Emma Tremblay as Ruby, and Adrian Pasdar as Morgan Edge.
The CW also released a teaser for all of their Fall series so take a look and get hyped for the full lineup!
