As we creep closer to the second season finale of The CW’s Supergirl, more information about what we can expect trickles out daily. E! Online broke the news that Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman would be appearing once again on the show. Soon after, it was announced that Calista Flockhart would also be returning as Cat Grant and that they’ll both appear in the finale.

Hoechlin first guest starred in the premiere of this season, and like Flockhart only appeared in the first two episodes. Both of them returning will bring a nice full circle feeling for the season, and those that have enjoyed this season will be pleased to know that it finishes with those which it began. For viewers that wish this season had taken a different direction, perhaps the recurrence of Cat Grant’s no-nonsense attitude and Superman’s experienced perspective on heroics will turn things back around.

Rumor has it that the season finale will include a full-scale Daxamite invasion, which apparently will call for Superman’s aid. There’s also a possibility of Cat Grant’s future absence being written away by having her return in the finale only to sell CatCo. They’ve been pulling Kara further and further away from her daily duties at CatCo since the season started, and after losing her job in episode 15, CatCo’s influence in the series has been negligent. James Olsen is only seen as Guardian or in fleeting moments socially, so it’s possible selling CatCo could cement his status as Guardian full-time.

What do you think about the return of Cat Grant and Superman? Are you looking forward to what their return to the show could mean and do you think the show is better off focusing on Supergirl instead of Kara?

Supergirl returns to The CW on April 24, 2017.
