FX and BBC One have confirmed air dates for Taboo, the high-profile period series starring Tom Hardy. The eight-part drama will debut on BBC One in the UK on January 7, followed in the US on FX, January 10 at 10 PM.
Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney, a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder, and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.
In addition to the confirmed air-date, FX has been busy releasing promos for the show during many of their popular programs such as American Horror Story and Atlanta. Check out a few of them below:
Taboo is created by Steven Knight with Tom Hardy and his father Chips Hardy, who is also the show’s consulting producer. Hardy and Knight had previously worked on Netflix’s Peaky Blinders and the film Locke. The series’ first four episodes are directed by The Killing‘s Kristoffer Nyholm, while Anders Engström will helm episodes five through eight. Keeping the series nicely centered with just 8 episodes and two directors is a confident blue-print for a honed and tonally even series.
In addition to the key art for the series, FX has also released the poster, which keeps in line the overall design of both the promos and banner art:
It’s interesting to note how much of these advertisements don’t really tell you much about the show. Whether they’re holding back spoilers, it still sells the tone and look, as well as its star very well. This is the first full trailer, which was released some months ago:
Taboo also stars Jonathan Pryce, Oona Chaplin, Stephen Graham, Michael Kelly, Jessie Buckley, David Hayman, Tom Hollander, Jason Watkins, Franka Potente, Jefferson Hall, Ed Hogg, Leo Bill, Christopher Fairbank, Richard Dixon, Mark Gatiss, Nicholas Woodeson, Lucian Msamati, and introduces Robert Parker.
Tune into FX for Taboo when it premieres on Tuesday, January 10 at 10:00 P.M.
