One of The Last Jedi‘s open secrets was that Tom Hardy would be filming a short cameo as a stormtrooper, much like Daniel Craig did in The Force Awakens. However, when the film was released, nobody could seem to find Hardy’s cameo, despite the other celebrity cameos from Prince Harry, Prince William, and singer/X-Factor judge Gary Barlow. Hardy – who starred in this year’s Taboo on FX, as well as Peaky Blinders – denied the rumors with his signature coolness, asking The Hollywood Reporter in an interview this past January, “Where did you hear that? Ah, the internet is a glorious web of deceit and misinformation, isn’t it?”
Hardy’s cameo is reportedly very brief, but slightly more substantial than Craig’s. The actor was cast as a stormtrooper with a thick southern accent who initially looks like a threat, but is ultimately an old friend of John Boyega’s Finn. According to The Telegraph, “I know who you are…. FN 2187!” Hardy’s character says. “Damn boy, I never took you for officer material!” The scene will reportedly be included on The Last Jedi‘s Blu-Ray release in mid-2018.
Tom Hardy is currently filming his Venom movie with director Ruben Fleischer and co-stars Jenny Slate, Michelle Williams, Woody Harrelson, and Riz Ahmed. The actor has always been a favorite amongst movie buffs, but his star power has risen considerably in recent years, which is why I’m genuinely surprised his cameo was cut from The Last Jedi. It was one of the most talked-about fun facts leading up to the film’s release, and while I’m sure Rian Johnson had a good reason, we’re excited to see it pop up on the Blu-Ray release next year.
