We don’t know too much about the upcoming Venom film from Ruben Fleischer besides the cast, though even those roles are still unknown for the most part. With the exception, of course, of star Tom Hardy, who will be playing Eddie Brock. A recent tweet of a set photo teases our first look at Brock, which also sheds some light on just which version of Venom we might be seeing.

While the image is a little hard to make out due to the lighting and angle, we can see Tom Hardy in what looks to be tactical gear, alluding to the more militaristic look of Agent Venom. In the comics, Eddie Brock is a news reporter and wouldn’t really require an outfit like that, so it looks like they will be blending his storyline with that of Flash Thompson, a US Marine who uses the alien symbiote to become Agent Venom for the government before striking out on his own as a superheroic vigilante.

That seemingly answers some questions about the character of Venom, though there is still quite a bit of speculation about rumored villain Carnage. In a recent behind-the-scenes video, Hardy’s personal trainer uses some interesting words when talking about Tom Hardy’s role as Venom. You can see the full BTS video below:

“What the world is going to see is one of the darkest, most powerful supervillains that Marvel has ever created. It’s going to be carnage.”

It’s obvious in the video he’s speaking about Venom, but we know the character to be more of an anti-hero than a straight up supervillain. Then to go and use the word “carnage” when it’s already assumed he will be the villain of the piece…

We’ll have to keep making assumptions as Sony is keeping this film pretty close to the vest, so keep it locked to GEEK for any news on Venom.
