We were very surprised when Hellboy was revealed to be the final contestant from Injustice 2‘s Fighter Pack 2, joining Black Manta and Raiden (and his Black Lightning premier skin). Now, with those other two characters having been out for a while, we finally have a date for Hellboy’s arrival and some solid film spotlighting his gameplay.

This has been a long time coming, especially since a trailer showing some action from The Atom, due to appear in Fighter Pack 3, jumped the line and came out before Hellboy’s trailer did.

What struck us first and foremost is Hellboy’s stature — he’s so big, taller than the rather large Red Lantern, Atrocitus, for certain. And he makes Cyborg look like a micro-machine. That Hellboy’s signature Right Hand of Doom would be part of the character was a given, and his revolver more or less as well, but the assortment of thrown mystical doodads apparently at his disposal — some kind of explosive, a water attack, and an entangling tree — add even more personality to his fighting style.

And speaking of personality, Hellboy’s signature gruff demeanor and cynical, world-weary attitude are perfectly captured in what NetherRealm Studios has shared so far. Hilarious that Atrocitus announces he’ll show Hellboy “hellish hate.” Mike Mignola’s best-known creation is, shall we say, a bit more than familiar with that plane. In fact, his Supermove allows him to bring an enemy down there with him. And his “trait” appears to be invoking the power of his hellish nature, with ethereal horns appearing to signify enhanced power that seems to include some kind of extra armor or invulnerability?

Check it out — it’s hard not to be excited for this cross-company guest-star, especially when it appears to have been done with such love and care.

The text that accompanies the video follows:

“As a member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, Hellboy has defended the world from fiends, witches, demons, and more than a few Lovecraftian Gods. With his trusty revolver and his ‘Right Hand of Doom,’ Hellboy has made monster disposal his specialty.”

Well, if you have a broad definition of monsters, there are plenty for Hellboy to dispose of in this game, from the gargantuan Gorilla Grodd, to Scarecrow, to Atrocitus. Some might even put the ‘lawful evil’ version of Superman that appears in the Injustice series in that category. And, on Nov. 14, these icons finally clash.
