NYCC 2012: Rick Remender and Paul Renaud’s Devolution

Rick Remender’s ability to juggle multiple books never ceases to amaze me. Today, Dynamite Entertainment announced that he has another to add to the pile, Devolution.

With art from Todd Renaud (Red Sonja, Cavewoman), Devolution is a “pulp/grindhouse science fiction” tale involving the last tribe of humans inoculated from a “devolution agent” that has reverse mutated the rest of humanity. Our leads embark on a journey to figure out how to restore order to the Earth. Remender drafted his Fear Agent collaborators Lee Loughridge (colorist) and Rus Wooten (letterer) for the project, too.

“I came up with Devolution around the same time as Fear Agent and it’s been percolating for years,” Remender said in a press release. “It’s incredibly fulfilling finally to be able to dive in with super talent Paul Renaud. He’s a tremendously gifted and intelligent collaborator. I wouldn’t have done the series without Paul and I appreciate Nick and Dynamite being so patient while we waited for the planets-and schedules-to align and make this project possible.”

Devolution is a dream project Rick Remender and I have been talking about for five years or so now,” added Renaud. “From our early talks about our mutual love for the EC comics and adventure comics of the 50′s, it grew into a larger template where we could actually show the whole world as an hostile deadly force.”

Look for Devolution #1 (Hey, how bout numbering the issues backwards? Call me if you’d like to use that, Dynamite.) at your local comic shop at some point in 2013.
