Epiphany:“When I was in junior high, role-playing games was a thing that you kept your distance from, unless you wanted be associated with the kids who wore capes to class. At the time, the first Nintendo video game system had just come out, and while Mario Bros. and Zelda were all the rage, it got old for me really quick. How many times do you have to save a princess? And just how dumb is she to get captured all the time? One day, a cape-wearing friend of mine let me borrow the game Final Fantasy. I was hooked within minutes. I’d never played a game that had an epic storyline that involved love, betrayal, adventure and, of course, saving the world. And this wasn’t a game you finished in a couple hours, it took weeks to complete. After that, I was sucked into RPGs, one after another: Dragon Warrior, Ultima, Ys, Suikoden, Balder’s Gate… each one gradually leading up to present day with Skyrim. Every Halloween, I’m still dressing up as some type of character from one of these games, although I still refuse to wear a cape.”
