You think you've got big hopes and dreams for Star Wars Episode VII? So does Patton Oswalt.
Okay, what you’re about to see below is actually a deleted rant from a character portrayed by comedian and actor Patton Oswalt on this week’s episode of Parks & Recreation, but it’s completely improvised from the man’s own mind. In the episode, Patton plays a citizen intent on stopping a bill from being voted upon by enacting a “citizen filibuster”, which means as long as he keeps talking, they can’t vote. So what can such a man as this talk about for hours, if not days, on end? Star Wars.
Swinging wildly from a Geek’s dream come true to the darkest of nightmares, Patton’s character offers up a Star Wars sequel that would likely make boatloads of money on rubbernecking principles alone, but would make the Phantom Menace look like Citizen Kane in comparison.
This eight and a half minute tirade goes well beyond the Star Wars universe (I won’t spoil it here beyond this: Marvel’s The Avengers show up), but don’t expect it to appear in the episode. Patton was asked to ramble for awhile for the cameras, so expect bits of this to make it into the tag at the end, most likely.
Parks and Recreation airs on NBC Thursdays at 9:30/8:30c.
