Having already played a lasting role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Paul Bettany has been added to Joss Whedon's follow-up to The Avengers.

Bettany has played the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. in all three Iron Man films and The Avengers, and Marvel has just upgraded his role in a huge way. Bettany will be playing the Vision, an android created by Ultron in the comics as a way to infiltrate the Avengers. The Vision eventually turns on his creator and joins the Avengers, becoming a long time member and eventual love interest of Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlet Witch, who will be played by Elizabeth Olsen.

Paul Bettany in Transcendence Paul Bettany Cast as the Vision in Avengers: Age of UltronBettany (Transcendence, Gangster No. 1) is a great choice to play the Vision, and his evolution from J.A.R.V.I.S. to Vision is one fans have predicted for a while. Of course, fans were also hoping that Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson would undergo a similar metamorphosis and take on the role of the Vision, though that dream was crushed quite a few months ago.

With Ultron’s origin being reworked to fit better in the MCU, his creation will come at the hands of Tony Stark, so it only makes sense that Ultron would then corrupt another ‘child’ of Starks as his own by creating the Vision. This kind of film continuity will only make the sequel stronger, and fans everywhere will no doubt rejoice that the Vision will be joining the film, and presumably the team.

Quicksilver (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Scarlet Witch, and the Vision will add wonderfully to the roster already assembled, and we can’t wait to see more on all of these characters.
