While it’s not quite clear yet who he’s playing, today Peter Dinklage has started filming his role in Bryan Singer’s next movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The above photo was tweeted yesterday by director Singer himself, showing him and Dinklage going over a script on an airplane. “Reviewing tomorrow’s work on the flight back to Montreal,” reads the tweet. And Dinklage posted a link to the tweet on his Facebook page, writing “Filming begins tomorrow on X-Men: Days of Future Past!” All of this—and we still don’t know who he’s playing.
There’s been plenty of speculation in recent months that Dinklage would play the creator of the Sentinels, one Bolivar Trask. And considering that the “Days of Future Past” comic book storyline the movie’s supposedly based on concerns an alternate future where mutants are exterminated by the Sentinels, it would certainly make a ton of sense for Trask to have a major part in the new movie. But take a look at that mustache. Does that not look like Puck? And, look, let’s just be real here: he’s got a similar short stature to that of Dinklage.
But based on various posts since the actor’s involvement was confirmed a few months ago, Puck is a no-go. As for the other actors and characters we’ll see in Days of Future Past, James McAvoy will be back as Professor X (as will Patrick Stewart), Jennifer Lawrence is Mystique, Michael Fassbender is Magneto (and so is Ian McKellen), and Hugh Jackman is, of course, Wolverine. There are plenty more confirmed mutants appearing in the flick, which may or may not return the franchise to the glory it had formerly achieved with X2: X-Men United, arguably the best movie in the franchise. Yes, that’s including First Class. We said it.
