John Boyega treated fans to an exclusive look at a very special prop that he will most definitely be using in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi later this winter.
A video of the new blaster was posted on Boyega’s official Instagram, and shows what is presumably himself pulling the trigger on the prototype weapon. Boyega has stated many times before that he is an avid Star Wars toy and memorabilia collector, even before being cast as Finn. The video is captioned with thanks to writer and director of Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson for Finn’s blaster.
You can get a closer look at Finn’s new blaster in the video below which also reads: “Proud owner of Finn’s blaster ! Thanks to @riancjohnson !” –
Finn’s blaster features a sleek design, including some fancy built-in lighting effects (though it will obviously have some augmentation thanks to CGI in the finished film), continuing the emphasis on practical effects that Disney is taking with these new Star Wars films. During the marketing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the lightsaber props actually lit up with their corresponding color. This was not only done to immerse the actors in the scene but to also provide lighting sources for the camera, making it easier for the digital effects team to do their finishing touches.
Boyega is still keeping his lips very sealed on any spoilers. In fact, The Last Jedi is following in its predecessor’s shoes of staying as spoiler-free in the marketing as possible.
Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, written and directed by Rian Johnson, stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, the late-great Carrie Fisher, and Adam Driver. It will be released on December 15th.
